Cirencester & District League
Minety 0
Oaksey 3

OAKSEY may have lost to local rivals Minety in two pre-season friendlies, however they had clearly learnt from the previous encounters and won the league clash that mattered 3-0, writes Pete Roach.

Oaksey matched Minety from the kick-off, but an early one-on-one between the hosts' striker Jake Pegler and Ben Fitch resulted in goalkeeper Fitch pulling off a superb save to keep the scores level.

Oaksey kicked on from there and were rewarded with a superlative strike from Ian (Cubby) Carr who met the ball on the volley from a ridiculous angle on the right wing and saw it arc over the Minety keeper to find the back of the net. Bradley Wickson made the score 2-0, coolly slotting home a penalty awarded for hand ball. Minety then lost their composure and impetus, which allowed Oaksey to press them further.

Minety's Pegler had a decent opportunity to reduce the deficit, but was denied once again by the Oaksey keeper.

A third goal, taken very neatly by Tim Farmer, consolidated Oaksey's lead. Farmer could have put the game completely out of reach but for a superb save from the penalty spot by the Minety keeper.

Despite a late rally from Minety, who came close with a header, a strike that just dipped over the bar and a desperate goal line clearance, Oaksey held on to take a deserved three points.
