MALMESBURY’S young racing driver Louis Harvey turned his fortunes around in the penultimate round of the Super One British Karting Championship.

Held at Shenington, one of his home circuits, Louis finished 10th in class and brought home the top privateer's trophy to the delight of family, friends and supporters.

Despite racing on an old loaned chassis and with donated equipment after his recent crash a still battered and bruised Louis did well in the Saturday morning practise sessions, racing with the front runners and setting some new personal best times.

“Setting PBs under the circumstances is astounding and makes you wonder how quick he would be on a brand new Tal-Ko chassis,” said his mechanic dad Chris.

“It was especially good as we were joined by one of his sponsors, David Mitchell of dna-rB, who came to see how Louis was doing.”

In heat one Harvey climbed to 10th at one point from a starting position of 13th before dropping back to 14th as the kart 'gripped up' in the heat.

After a few changes to the set-up for heat two Louis improved to cross the line in 10th.

A hard race for the first of Sunday's finals, with lots of position swapping, saw Louis finish 11th.

After a great start to final two he was up to sixth and held that position for four laps.

But the hot conditions led to the kart gripping up again and slowing his pace which allowed the chasing pack to catch up.

Post-race, after the penalties were awarded, Louis had finished a respectable 10th and was awarded the top privateer trophy for the day.

His next big challenge is to secure the sponsorship needed to compete in Super One again in 2018. Information on how you could help can be obtained by contacting him on sponsorship@louisharvey.com.
