SGB Premiership
Somerset Rebels 37
Swindon Robins 53

UNSTOPPABLE Swindon sit six points clear at the top of the Premiership after sailing to a 53-37 victory at Somerset Rebels on Friday.

The Robins rarely looked troubled in a 12th-straight league victory despite the hosts rallying to within two points after 10 heats.

Once again, Alun Rossiter’s men shared the plaudits with David Bellego and mid-season signing Tobiasz Musielak backing up big-hitter Jason Doyle.

Musielak passed ex-Robin Josh Grajczonek to support Doyle for a maximum in the opener and while Rebel Lewis Kerr bagged a pair of wins, Bellego also took a chequered flag in heat three to keep Swindon ahead by two.

Doyle and Adam Ellis spearheaded 4-2 heat advantages in heats five and six with Richard Lawson and Musielak then trading wins in shared races.

Ellis’s steely show to hold off Charles Wright snaffled a share of the spoils in the ninth but Somerset hit back with a 5-1 when Grajczonek scored a first-to-last-to-first win.

The dream team of Musielak and Doyle returned the favour in the 11th, though, and Kerr’s retirement helped Swindon to fill the minor places to stay six to the good ahead of the final three races.

Doyle won again from the gate in heat 13 but all the action was behind him as Nick Morris roared from fourth to second at the start of lap two for a decisive 5-1.

Bellego then battled his way past Patrick Hougaard on lap three of the penultimate race to seal all four points before adding the coup de grace with another victory in the finale.

Team boss Rossiter said: “It was an accomplished performance, we set the tone in heat one and it all went very well. Everybody chipped in and did their jobs.

“Tobiasz did really well. He has been our missing link since coming in but the whole team is firing at the moment and that is so pleasing to see.”

Next up for the Robins is the live televised home clash with King’s Lynn Stars on Monday (7.30pm) with club bosses offering adult entry for just £5.
