Cirencester 6.5 Naunton 1.5 CIRENCESTER

SENIORS welcomed Naunton Downs Seniors to Cirencester on Tuesday, August 8 for this season’s home match. Considering the forecast the weather was very kind and it was a dry afternoon with Cirencester victorious winning the match 6.5 to 1.5.

The winning teams were: Mike Helyer & Jeff Salter 4&3, John Morris & Terry McQuirk 3&2, David Lowbridge & Mike Bishop 2up, Keith Hodgson & Mike Staples 1up, David Findlay & Jim Turner 1up, and Ain Perry & Emry Williams 3&2. John Appleby and John Thurston recorded a half to complete the significant win.

Monthly Stableford Competition

THE monthly Seniors competition was held last Wednesday with 75 entrants braving the inclement weather.

As usual the event was hotly contested with Graham Clarke being the overall winner with 40 Stableford points.

Division One was won by John Morris scoring 39 points followed by Paul Simmonds and David Jones each one point behind the other.

Fourth was taken by Leo Ferro and the last placing by Mike Bishop.

Division Two winner with 36 points was Ian Perry, “Joe” Hickey scored 35 points to take second place and a returned-to-form Geoff Ludbrook came home with 34 points in third.

The last two placings were taken by Mike Kirman and Ken Anderson.

Also concluded with this months’ competition was the Goddard Cup decided by the top scorer in three of the summers five monthly contests.

Not only winning this month but overall with 113 points was Graham Clarke followed by Andrew Ponting, David Clarke, Ken Anderson and Robert Bell each one point behind the other.

B Team

Cirencester B 4 Defence Academy 1

KEVIN Young outplayed the opposition with a net 62, as Cirencester were strongly in front in all matches.

Even in match three, which Cirencester eventually lost, they were 2 up after nine but got trounced by four holes in a row meaning they succumbed to a one hole loss A tremendous level par round from Duncan Barnes winning 7&6 in match four sealed victory, followed by another success in the last match, Jonathan winning nearest the pin on the second.

Martin Peet once again proved his arrow-like driving prowess on 10 winning longest drive.
