WORLD CUP winner Fran Wilson will bid to collect another major trophy when she lines up in the Kia Super League next month.

Minety’s Wilson, 25, dons the colours of last year’s runners-up Western Storm and alongside her will be two other heroines from England’s winning side in the sell-out at Lord’s, captain Heather Knight and the match winner Anya Shrubsole.

Western Storm, the composite team under the umbrella of Gloucestershire CCC, Somerset CCC and the University of Exeter, were beaten by Southern Vipers in last year’s inaugural final.

Buoyed by their dramatic success in the Women’s World Cup, few will be betting against the England trio going one better when the series starts on Thursday, August 10.

Mouth wateringly, their first game is a repeat of the 2016 final against Southern Vipers, but this time played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Ironically, Wilson’s greatest contribution in the recent World Cup came in England’s only defeat – in the opening match against India – when she made 81 from 75 balls.

England won their next six matches, to become favourites for the final, including a last-gasp semi-final win over South Africa when Wilson’s innings of 30 late on was key.

She did not make a telling contribution in the final but she had more than justified her return to the England side after an absence of five years as the hosts pulled off a stunning fightback to win at the home of cricket.

Chasing England’s target of 228-7, India looked set for victory at 191-3, but Shrubsole pinned Punam Raut lbw for 86 to spark a collapse of seven wickets for 28 runs.

The seamer finished with 6-46 – the best figures in a World Cup final – as India were bowled out for 219 with eight balls unused.

Fears that England may have missed their chance were raised when Jenny Gunn dropped a sitter to reprieve Poonam Yadav.

But Shrubsole bowled Rajeshwari Gayakwad next ball to spark joyous scenes on the pitch and among the majority of fans in a sell-out crowd.
