PHOEBE PINE has returned from the Para Archery European Cup world ranking event in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic with a gold and a bronze medal.

Phoebe was a member of the three-strong GB team – with Jodie Grinham and Jess Stretton – that won gold in the Compound category, breaking a World and two European records en route to the final.

They beat Ukraine in the semi-final and Germany in a tense final by 220-218.

Phoebe also won bronze in the mixed pairs with John Walker, beating Slovakia in another hard-fought contest by 147-144.

Phoebe, from Siddington, is on the Archery GB World Class Programme and was taken to the Rio Olympics in 2016 by the British team so she could sample the atmosphere of the strongest competition in the world with a view to representing the GB team at the Tokyo paralympics in 2020.

She is a former Cirencester College student.

Phoebe is a member of the all-conquering Deer Park Archers club based at Shurdington in Gloucestershire.

The previous weekend Phoebe's Deer Park team-mates Lucy Mason and James Howse were members of a strong GB team shooting in Porec (Croatia) at the European Youth Cup.

Lucy, Layla Annison and Hollie Smith broke the world record during qualification but surprisingly lost to Estonia, having to settle for silver.

However, it was gold for Lucy in the mixed cadet team with Jake Walsh.

James Howse also won a bronze with partner Izzy Carpenter in the junior mixed team, leaving GB top of the medals table at the end of the week.

There was no lack of success back at home, none more so than from 12-year-old Chloe A’Bear from Meysey Hampton who goes to Kingshill School.

Chloe, who won the national U14 title at the Junior Outdoor Archery Championships recently, is literally creating new personal bests on a weekly basis, including finishing runner-up in a World Record Status event against adults.

Cirencester's Ella Gibson also continues to record some excellent scores and improve her personal bests – she is now in the top eight of the prestigious National Series.

Deer Park also held their first World Record Status event at the new ground on June 23. Highlights included the two compound semi-finals where seven of the eight competitors were internationals.

Lucy Mason was beaten in a one-arrow shoot-off in the final by GB team-mate Izzy Carpenter, with Deer Park's Holly Clifford edging out club companion Grace Chappell in the bronze medal match.

Riley Spencer-Nice won gold in the Cadet Gents Recurve and Molly Peters took silver in the Cadet Ladies' Recurve. Caroline A’Bear won gold in the Ladies' Recurve to round off a great day.

Club founder Roger Crang said: "I am so proud of all our members, volunteers, coaches etc and what they are achieving at all levels is staggering.

"The club is growing, managing to be inclusive of all abilities, interacting with the community, performing at the highest level, and staying affordable."
