STEVE YATES has added to his long list of achievements by winning another national title at the Middle Distance Age Group Triathlon Championships at Ashford in Kent.

Steve, from Daglingworth, completed the Half Ironman event in a total time of 4hr 36min which was enough to win the 50-54 years age group by more than 10 minutes.

He placed sixth overall in the 500-plus strong field, 14 minutes behind the overall winner Tom Foster, from the 25-29 age group.

Steve’s split times for the 1.9 km swim/90 km bike/21km run were: 33.13; 2:30.21; 1:30.02.

"That's six national titles now," said Steve. "It also extends my unbeaten record in age group to five years – since the 2012 World Championships in Spain.

"My next target is the British Middle Distance Championships in September."

Steve represents both the Cirencester Tri Club and Ride 24/7 of Cirencester, who support him along with Cotswold Leisure.
