WEPL Premier One
Potterne 138-1
Lechlade did not bat
LECHLADE captain Freddie Martin made the superfluous trip to the middle for the toss against Potterne on Saturday – the last time Freddie won the toss Mrs May still had a majority!
Hosts Potterne duly decided to bat and with rain likely to curtail play at some point in the afternoon they set about the Lechlade attack.
Hampshire’s Tom Alsop (70*) played shots all around the wicket and raced to 50 in 55 five balls, although the short boundary contributed to the run rate.
After 85 minutes Potterne had raced to 138-1 in 21 overs when the rain inevitably came.
Although the skies occasionally brightened the rain persisted and the umpires inevitably called the game off at 5pm.
Optimists might argue that the rain robbed Lechlade of a chance of a result, realists would say it probably saved them from defeat.
On Saturday Lechlade entertain league leaders Bath to the Manor Ground, a big chance for locals to watch some quality cricket.
