Cirencester Town 7
Cheltenham Town U23s 1
CIRENCESTER TOWN, who put eight goals past Fairford Town on Thursday evening, knocked a further seven past a young-looking Cheltenham Town U23s on Saturday.
The game was played on the former Academy pitch as work on the new 3G pitch and surrounding area in the stadium is not yet complete.
The heavy rain produced a slick playing surface encouraging precise passing and movement.
Cirencester opened the scoring after eight minutes when Matt Coupe headed home a free kick at the near post.
Development striker Sam Walsh added two more with a calm finish inside the right post and a superb volley on the turn that flew into the top left corner.
Minutes before the interval James Mortimer-Jones converted a penalty kick to give Cirencester a 4-0 lead.
Walsh completed his hat-trick from close range following a corner kick and Henry Spalding made it six with a driving run and precise finish.
With eight minutes remaining Jordan Stoddart headed a corner home from near the penalty spot and Cheltenham’s George Lloyd scored a consolation goal two minutes later.
Cirencester Town: Arie Peursum, Ryan Elliott, Matt Coupe, Max Arnold, James Mortimer-Jones, Kieren Diaz-Benitez, Louis Loader, Henry Spalding, Mason Lewis, Aidan Bennett, Sam Walsh. Subs: Jack Horrell, Ellis Dunton, Ben Whitehead.
