ONE of Cirencester’s most successful skittles team has beaten off 36 rivals from throughout England and Wales to win a major tournament.

S.E.B. (Southern Electricity Board) who play out of the town’s Bees Knees pub, stormed through to the finals of the competition staged at Weston-super-Mare.

They were taking on teams drawn from Cardiff, Caerphilly, Barry, Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Wiltshire and Hereford.

In the final S.E.B emerged victors with 447 points, comfortably ahead of nearest rivals Avimo from Taunton on 422 and Indians A from Gloucester in third place with 407. It’s the second time S.E.B. have won a major trophy in the Serious About Weekends Series. Their last victory came five years ago in Torquay.

Captain Jamie Duffield said it all came right in the finals.

"We were very focused and very determined to win," he said.

Around 20 competitions are staged by Serious About Events of Torquay across south west and south coast resorts. The company also organises the British Skittles Championships.
