Johns Trophy
Somerset Women 120
Gloucestershire Women 129
IN A gripping Johns Trophy quarter final Gloucestershire women put in a superlative performance to overcome neighbours Somerset by nine shots at Chew Stoke BC.
In the opening five ends Gloucestershire roared into a 14-shot lead. By halfway they were still 12 shots to the good before faltering over the next five ends to see Somerset take a one-shot lead.
Digging deep Gloucestershire then turned the tables and with three ends to play were leading by six shots. By the time the last two ends on two rinks were played they had an unassailable lead and that put them in the semi-finals.
Throughout the match some crucial scores lifted Gloucestershire as they won three rinks and drew one.
Rita Gerry of Moreton was on one of the three winning Gloucestershire rinks. Along with Fran Stockford (Olveston), Julia Stannard (Nailsworth) and Lindsay Collin (Page Park) they beat Joan Walmsley 25-23 after a late rally from Somerset.
