DESPITE some of his best results of the season, Louis Harvey suffered the disappointment of finishing last across the line in the fourth round of the TKM SuperOne series at Fulbeck in Lincolnshire last weekend, after a one-lap penalty knocked him out of fifth place.

Qualifying on Saturday went well, with Harvey placing 11th of the 29 Super Oone drivers. This was his highest position in timed qualifying this season.

He managed 12th in heat one and fourth in heat two.

With the points in heat one and two added together, Louis started sixth in final one, his highest starting position of 2017. Mid-race Louis was hot on the tail of a rival who, misjudging a corner, braked hard. Louis clipped his back bumper. This caused the other kart to slide and lose position.

Harvey crossed the line fifth and was excited to be starting final two as the highest rookie and highest privateer, with a real chance of battling for the top spot.

However, the accident was deemed to be his fault at a stewards’ enquiry. He was given a one-lap penalty, dropping him to second from last.

Malmesbury’s Louis lined up for final two determined to regain some lost points. Spotting a gap, he moved over to pass a number of karts and clipped the grass causing his kart to spin off into the gravel.

Struggling to get his kart back on track he lost nearly a whole lap and ended up last across the line.

His performance in the heats scored him good points and moved him up two places in the championship, but with only three rounds left he has a lot of work to do.

“I feel a one-lap penalty was harsh for a genuine racing incident, but I have to take it on the chin and look ahead to my next round in two weeks at GYG in North Wales,” said Louis.
