THE round five final of the Shenington Karting Club Championship became a battle of the Super One drivers in the Junior TKM class, with Malmesbury's Louis Harvey in the thick of the action throughout.
It was anyone’s race as the drivers entered the final series of corners with Louis having to settle for fifth place in a blanket finish.
Incidents in heat one and two – including a 10-second penalty for a dislodged nose cone due to a bump at the start – resulted in the youngster starting way down the grid in 10th place (of 31) for the final.
There had been a lack of power in heat three so a different carb was fitted for the final, but Louis still had a lot of ground to make up.
Three leaders broke away but it was only a matter of time before they were reeled in and a seven-kart battle ensued which included Louis and his long-time karting buddy Connor Kearney.
With the karts up to four wide into the last corner it was a dash to the line with Louis being pipped to fourth by Connor who crossed the line 100th of a second in front. James Pashley took the win.
