BRICKHAMPTON Court professional Ross Langdon scooped both the top individual and the team prizes at the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Pro-Am held at Cirencester GC on Sunday.

He took advantage of the excellent early scoring conditions to navigate the Gloucestershire venue in a three-under par 67. He also led home the winning team on the day making it a double success for the big hitting Cheltenham-based player.

It was the first pro-am for a few years at Cirencester after it was resurrected under the Gloucester and Somerset banner by club professional Ed Goodwin.

He attracted 25 teams to the event and all enjoyed a golf course in superb condition with hospitality to match in the clubhouse afterwards.

Langdon raced to the turn in 32 strokes collecting birdies at the 1st, 5th and 6th. Coming home he was unable to improve on his score but bogeys at the 11th and 17th were cancelled out by further gains at the 12th and 15th and three under proved to be the winning score.

In-form Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) and George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow) got closest to him with rounds of 68. Both of them were also among the early starters.

Minchinhampton’s Nick Haile, Russ Berry (Broadway) and host pro Goodwin also broke the par of 70 as they shared fourth place with 69.

Cirencester assistant pro Mitch Caunt, a recent winner on the G&S circuit, raced to three-under early in his round, which included a spectacular eagle two at the par four 6th when he drove the green and holed a monster 40 foot putt.

But he could not keep the run going as the wind got up and had to settle for a two-over-par 72 and a share of ninth place. In the team event, Langdon’s quartet of himself, Steve Gallagher, Ben Woodward and Mike Smith enjoyed a large winning margin as they blitzed their way to an impressive 88 points.

This was five clear of a team led by Scott Thompson. Mendip Spring pro Thompson was joined by Dave Bate, Nathan Jenkins and James Witchelow as they returned 83 points for the runners-up prize.

Team Dyer finished third as Chris, Will and Tom Dyer joined George Ryall to accumulate 82 points, beating Luke Gaskins' team on the back six holes after a countback.
