STOW-ON-THE-WOLD RFC have appointed former Gloucester back row player Larry Cummins as their head coach for next season.

Larry spent seven years at Kingsholm in the pre-professional era and while there played with Stow stalwarts Ian Roberts and Barry Clark.

His playing career also included a five-year stint in Sydney, playing for Randwick and Southern Districts. Following his time at Gloucester he concluded his rugby with spells at Cheltenham and Stow.

A former teacher, Larry began his coaching career with Gloucestershire Schools U18s and progressed through the ranks to coach at divisional level and then with England Schools U18s and subsequently England U16s.

He also spent two seasons coaching Cheltenham RFC and spent time with Worcester Academy.

These days Larry is still involved with rugby but in a different capacity, selling tours for Gullivers Sports Travel. His sons both play in Stow's minis section and he is looking forward to recommencing his coaching again with his local club.

"I have lived a short distance from the club for the last 10 years and have always appreciated the role that Stow RFC plays in the community," said Cummins.

"I am looking forward to the challenge and hope to bring a brand of rugby that is enjoyable to play and watch."

Stow remain in Southern Counties North for the 2017/18 season while their 2nd XV will play in Berks, Bucks & Oxon Div 4 North which should guarantee them 18 league games plus friendlies against local Gloucestershire teams.

Pre-season training will start on July 6 at 7pm. New players will be very welcome, for more information email cumminslarry@yahoo.co.uk.
