Junior Combination Cup
Tetbury RFC 29
Stroud Nomads 31
TETBURY RFC missed a late penalty to lose a tense semifinal 31-29 against Stroud Nomads at the rec.
With a much changed side from their cup final win the week before, Tetbury started poorly against a very strong Nomads side, conceding two early tries before scoring two of their own to level the score.
In a frantic match that neither team could move far enough clear, the more experienced Stroud side kept pushing to see off the game but the resilient Tetbury team refused to buckle under numerous waves of Stroud ball carriers and took their opportunities to keep themselves in the game.
Tetbury gave it absolutely everything and with the final play and Stroud two points ahead, Tetbury won a penalty.
To the relief of the Stroud team the ball scraped just past the post.
Tetbury coach Stephen Knight praised props Charlie Eddolls and Caine Pawlowski along with fly half Matt Niblett.
