CDCA Division 2

Central Hall

Fairford 2nd XI

FAIRFORD 2nd XI started their CDCA league season with an emphatic win at Central Hall on Saturday.

Ben Cohoon's maiden century for the club was the highlight of the emphatic 173 run victory.

Cohoon batted impressively on an awkward wicket, striking the ball cleanly to the long boundaries on all sides of the ground scoring 128 not out which included five sixes and 20 fours.

New vice-captain, Louis Cusack provided him with excellent support in a third wicket partnership of 189.

Cusack (78) was able to rotate the strike cleverly before cutting loose, earning himself a well-deserved half-century.

Tom Sealey provided the final push with a quickfire 17 to take Fairford's innings up to an imposing 246-4.

Chasing that many runs always looked to be a tall order for the home side, particularly after tight opening spells from Charlie Bailey (8-4-9-1) and Kurt Eyre (5-1-21-1).

The star of the show with the ball was Harvey New, whose accuracy and variety were rewarded with exceptional figures of 8-6-8-4.

Jack Grierson put an earlier batting disappointment behind him to chip in with two good wickets and Sealey was in fine form behind the stumps, taking two smart catches, as well as converting Cusack's sharp run out.

Central Hall were all out for 73 in the 28th over.
