GLOUCESTERSHIRE schoolboy Shrey Bhardwaj will compete with the nation’s best young table tennis players this weekend.
The Pates Grammar pupil is one of 44 boys who have qualified for the Under 19s group at the Butterfly Schools Individual Table Tennis Championships National Finals in Alderley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton.
More than 350 players representing 50 counties will attend the one-day tournament on Saturday, April 29.
Bhardwaj, from Wroughton near Swindon. qualified for the national tournament after winning the Gloucestershire U19s Boys title in January without losing a single game en route. The 17-year-old will represent Gloucestershire county and Pates Grammar school this weekend.
If he impresses during the championships, the English Schools’ Table Tennis Association may select him to feature within an English representative team to play in the Invitation International in June 2017, facing teams from Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Wales also competing.
