EDWARD COOPER from Hankerton near Malmesbury gained his first podium finish of the season in the second round of the 750 Motor Clubs Classic Stock Hatch Championships at Snetterton in Norfolk over the weekend.

Cooper, 30, who has finished sixth and fifth in the series over the last two years, would prefer to forget his opening race.

He made a good start from fourth place on the grid and soon moved into second, only to make a braking error at the end of the Bentley straight, eventually sliding into the slip road on Brundle bend.

Cooper was able to recover and rejoin the field in 12th position and clawed his way up to finish eighth.

After a red flag forced race two to be restarted due to a two-car collision, Cooper battled hard in a close fought race to earn a season's best third place.
