BRISTOL & District Combination were too strong for Stroud & District Combination when the sides met at Fromehall Park last week.

The visitors’ had representation from 12 different teams around Bristol while the home side was made up from just five.

Watched by a large crowd the game was played at a high tempo but the Stroud team conceded two tries in either half eventually succumbing 26-0.

The well-drilled visitors’ opened the scoring with a converted try early in the game but the hosts soon gathered their own momentum putting the Bristol line under a lot of pressure.

However, some robust defence from the Bristol side and a lack of accuracy from Stroud meant the visitors’ whitewash remained uncrossed.

It was this lack of accuracy which led to the Bristol outfit’s second try, with Stroud spilling the ball when on the front foot, resulting in a fast counter attack and the Bristol lock dotting down under the posts.

The conversion was added and the visitors’ went into the break with a 14-0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern with strong Stroud attacks being stopped by a forceful Bristol defence.

Bristol extended their lead with a fast-paced move that resulted in a try in the corner followed by a brilliant touchline conversion.

The visitors’ pack had dominated the set-piece, particularly at the scrummage and they extended their lead with another try, this time unconverted.

Stroud continued to pour forward generating quick ball and hammering on the Bristol line.

Sadly these efforts were in vain and the Stroud team failed to get on the scoresheet.
