Hellenic Division Two West
Bourton Rovers 3
Kidlington Reserves 1

BOURTON ROVERS have won the Hellenic Division Two West league at the first time of asking after beating long-time leaders Kidlington Reserves in the title decider at Rissington Road on Saturday.

Bourton had come from nowhere since Christmas, winning nine of their last 10 league games to become champions.

It was a winner-takes-all clash in front of a crowd of 250 with Bourton starting the game a point behind their great rivals.

A hat-trick for Connor Teague sealed the victory for Bourton, who finish their league season with a rescheduled game at Oxford City Nomads on Friday night (7.45pm).

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes when Teague latched on to a flick from Adam Webley and lobbed the onrushing Kidlington 'keeper.

The Bourton goal sparked the game into life with both teams playing some good football and all players showing 100 per cent commitment.

Kidlington got back into the game with a goal in the 38th minute after a mix-up in the Bourton defence.

But Teague saw to it that Bourton regained the lead on the stroke of half-time with his second of the game, an excellent glancing header.

The interval gave the Bourton medical team time to work on head injuries to both Danny Way and Teague.

The second half started at a slow pace with Bourton happy to sit tight.

In the 65th minute, however, Webley latched on to a through ball and whipped a cross into the box where Teague headed home to complete his hat-trick.

It felt like the final blow had been delivered to Kidlington’s title hopes.

Bourton manager Scott Powles then made changes and substitute Chris Hughes took the game to Kidlington as Bourton finished the game on the front foot.

Powles said: "The league title is amazing as it is our first time in the Hellenic League after previous seasons in local football.

"I am delighted with my players' performances this season and the character they have shown since Christmas given that we knew we had to win almost every game to claim the title.

"We have lost just once since Christmas, which is a fantastic achievement in this challenging league and we all seemed to enjoy the pressure.

"I would like to thank the club for supporting me and my players this season.

"We now look forward to Oxford City and then our presentation evening on Friday, May 13, before a few weeks' break."

Bourton Rovers will defend their Div Two West next season as they cannot be promoted to Div One West until certain ground improvements specified by the Hellenic League, which the club are working towards, are completed.
