Cirencester B 3½
Minchinhampton B 2½
THE birdie machines aka Steve Springthorpe & Gavin Allen pulled off the biggest win of the day (7&6) as Cirencester's B team snatched a narrow victory over their visitors from Minchinhampton.
Captain Kevin Young's 40-foot chip from the semi rough on the 14th for a birdie three to win the hole and the game – having never been on the fairway – was another highlight.
The visitors turned up one man short, but appreciated the gesture when captain Young called up Andy Ponting at the last minute to play for the opposition in the game against Magnus Flett and David Soar.
That game went to the last putt on the final hole and sadly for Andy he missed it to leave Minchinhampton with a half rather than an outright win.
Cirencester's points scorers: Kevin Young & David Michael (6&4); Steve Springthorpe & Gavin Allen (7&6); Pete Shepherd & Jonathan Wells (3&1); Magnus Flett & David Soar (halved).
Nearest the pin: Kevin Young; Longest drive: David O'Hare (Minch).
