Stratton Youth FC round-up

Stratton Youth U16s 1

Ferndale Rodbourne Colts U16s 5

THE final game of the season for Stratton Youth U16s was an entertaining one against Ferndale.

Ferndale took the lead after five minutes, before extending it on 12 minutes.

Stratton got back into the game but were unable to turn the chances they had into goals during the first half. The second half saw Ferndale extend their lead to 4-0 on 47 and 62 minutes, the latter from a fine long-range effort.

Stratton clawed a goal back with a close-range effort by Jamie Witt on 66 minutes. Stratton continued to have good spells of play but were unable to convert, before going a further goal behind to lose the match 5-1.

Stratton's MoM: Matthew James.

Stratton Youth U15s 2

Swindon Supermarine U15s 4

KIERAN COLLINGWOOD and Sean Ponting were the scorers in one of the home side's best games of the season, with Alfie Cook and Matt Price sharing the MoM.

Stratton Youth U14s 10

South Cerney U14s 3

A full-strength Stratton Youth U14s side reached double figures in their local derby win over South Cerney.

The first 15 minutes saw both sides evenly matched, with probing attacks being well defended.

On 17 minutes Harvey Biggs opened the scoring with a fine strike, and from then on Stratton hit their stride and dominated the match.

A hard-pressed South Cerney defence was unable to cope with Stratton's fine passing.

A further two goals came from Biggs, and three from Barney Kimber, while in the last seconds of the first half, South Cerney grabbed a goal back to make the half-time score 6-1.

South Cerney came out stronger in the second half and held off the Stratton attack for the first 20 minutes, but then fatigue started to show and South Cerney had no substitutes.

Stratton again began to dominate, with Harvey McCullie scoring his hat-trick and a goal coming from Andrew Bradshaw.

South Cerney continued to battle away and scored two late goals to make the final score 10-3 to Stratton Youth.

MoM: The whole Stratton squad.

Mini Section

STRATTON U11s were at home in the cup and proved too strong for FC Calne. Jayden Stratford (3), Holly Giles (2), Jacob Ryan, Leo Jones, Emanuel Meeke, Charlie Miller and Olly Potter were the scorers.

The U9s had a good game at home with Swindon Supermarine. James Bassett was the MoM.

The U8s had their final cup game of the season and hosted their counterparts from Marlborough.

The home side put together some great passing moves and it was a classic cup tie of end-to-end football. The lead continually changed hands with the home side unable to capitalise on some great chances due to fine saves from the visiting goalkeeper.

Just when the game looked like going to extra time the U8s almost clinched it, but in the resulting scramble the ball fell to one of the Marlborough players who broke from one end of the pitch to the other before deftly finishing with the last kick of the match.

Both teams can be delighted with such a skilful, competitive and sportsmanlike game.

U8 scorers: Finley Stratford (2), Sam Potter (2), Louis Kingsbury and Arthur Quli.

MoM: Jack Cummins.
