CIA Mills-Roberts Memorial Cup SF

Sherston 1

Minety 2

MINETY FC reached their first cup final since reforming four years ago when just getting the better of Sherston in a tough encounter.

Minety started brightly, pressing the Sherston players from the off.

It was end-to-end stuff but there were no clear-cut chances for either team, but Minety's Robert Harvey did pick up a yellow card for a late tackle.

Minety were then denied three times in 10 minutes by great saves from the Sherston keeper who kept the score at 0-0.

The deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when Robyn Collier and Jake Pegler helped set up a goal for James Hurcombe.

In the second half, Minety were forced to make two substitutions – Mark Harvey coming on for Rob Harvey and Rob Walsh for Pegler.

Sherston came out the blocks fired up looking to get the equaliser, but Minety's defence of Danny Pike, Scott Dufus, James Dixon and Mark Harvey stifled the hosts' attacks.

In the 70th minute a through ball from Scott Dufus found Hurcombe unmarked 20 yards out and his right footed shot nestled in the bottom corner.

Sherston piled players forward looking to get back in the game and they pulled a goal back in the 89th minute with an Adam Fitzgerald header from a corner.

Minety, who face either Kingshill Sports or Oaksey in the final, went on to defeat Stratton United 5-1 in the league on Saturday.
