Malmesbury Victoria 2

Portishead Town 0

MALMESBURY VICS picked up a fairly routine three points at the Flying Monk ground on Saturday after a thoroughly professional and workmanlike performance.

The back four were superb throughout and were safely marshalled between the sticks by Ant Brown, whose distribution all game was first class. The Vics took the lead on 21 minutes when a high looping cross from Sam Parker was met at the back post by Jamie Packer and his nod down was fired home by Jon Bazley from 15 yards.

That's how it stayed until half-time. With the help of the wind in the second half more chances fell Vics' way and they doubled the lead on 58 minutes.

Josh Russell delivered a pinpoint free kick on to the head of Josh Hughes but the keeper made a fantastic save. The loose ball was retrieved by George Peare, whose drilled cross was touched on by Krystian Hext for Parker to nod home at the back stick.

Hext then grazed the top of the crossbar with a header five minutes later after another Russell free kick. Late on Packer did everything right in rounding the keeper but his left foot shot was cleared off the line, and then Parker had a header cleared off the line from a corner.

Jon Bazley took the man of the match award for his goal and tireless work rate throughout.
