Fairford Town 5

Tytherington Rocks 1

FAIRFORD Town extended their advantage at the summit of Division One West with a 5-1 home victory over Tytherington Rocks, writes Chris Tanner.

Lee Smith scored a hat-trick to take his personal goal tally for the season to 25, hitting his treble in just over an hour.

It was striker Levi Cox who opened the scoring on seven minutes before the first of Smith’s efforts arrived eight minutes later after a fast Fairford start.

Chris Jackson made it 3-0 with his second goal of the week on the half-hour mark and that’s how it stayed until the half-time interval.

Smith grabbed his second just before the hour and completed his hat-trick on 64 minutes to seal a fine afternoon’s work.

The visitors got a goal back with a penalty with 20 minutes remaining but there were no further goals in what was an entertaining encounter for the home crowd, who had enjoyed the ‘Pay What You Want’ promotion aimed at encouraging new supporters to Cinder Lane.

Fairford's new signing Ryan Stanners came on as a second half sub.

Fairford’s advantage at the top of the table is now seven points and there is a break from league action on Tuesday night as Flackwell Heath arrive in the quarter-final of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup (7.45pm).
