Cirencester Town Devs 3

New College Swindon 2

CIRENCESTER TOWN Development remain in second place in the division, albeit having played more games than those around them, after a narrow win over New College Swindon.

Probably the two youngest squads in the league played out a really tight encounter.

Both sides looked to pass the ball around in the early stages on a near-perfect pitch with the Devs perhaps just shading the possession.

With 24 minutes gone New College took a quick corner which resulted in the ball reaching Max Slinn on the edge of the Devs box. His first time shot was deflected over Lewis Meredith into the Devs net to put New College into the lead.

The Devs responded positively and more of the game was being played in New College's final third. The equaliser arrived in the 34th minute when Kyle Chambers received the ball at the back post and calmly found the net from 10 yards.

With a foothold in the game the Devs then managed to grab the lead seven minutes later when a mistake in the New College defence presented Danny Gudger with a simple finish.

Before the Devs could think about seeing the game out to half-time, Ben Lodge managed to break through the Devs defence and beat Meredith in a one-on-one right on the stroke of half-time.

The second half saw the Devs enjoying a large amount of possession but without really troubling the New College defence.

But, in the 76th minute, Gudger worked an opening on the edge of the box and blasted what proved to be the winning goal off the inside of the post.

In the final minute Chambers should have made the result more comfortable but another goal would have been unfair on the New College lads after a solid performance.
