Purton 5
Shortwood Utd Res 1
AFTER going in all square at the break, a second-half salvo saw Purton run out 5-1 winners at the Red House last Saturday, for a third straight league success, writes Alan Eastwood.
Manager Justin Miller had nearly a full-strength 11 for the game and they got off to a super start after just 25 seconds when Ollie Hunt's cross-cum-shot flew past the visiting 'keeper.
Matt Bennett went close to adding a second after 15 minutes and Joe Hiscock had a 20-yard effort palmed away on 25 minutes but then Purton lost their way.
On 31 minutes a rare mistake by Purton 'keeper Max Scholefield allowed Ollie Portlock to level and minutes later Purton skipper Matt Bearne had to be replaced by Neil Fisher after going off injured.
The second half saw Purton regain their early form and on the hour a cross by Joe Dorey was netted by Bennett. Nine minutes later Bennett scored again with another clinical finish after a long punt forward by Scholefield.
Bennett went on to complete a hat-trick after 85 minutes and Shannon Pocock completed the scoring just a minute after coming off the bench.
On Saturday, Purton will host near-neighbours Shrivenham (3pm kick-off).
