Cirencester League Div Two

Sherston 7

Kingshill 6

SHERSTON stayed top of the Cirencester League's Division Two table after coming off best in a 13-goal thriller with Kingshill.

Sherston attacked from the outset and soon took the lead.

Twice within a minute Chris Salt had the chance to finish off a mishit clearance by the visiting keeper and took the second opportunity to make it 1-0.

Sherston increased their lead when Tommy Bourne latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the area before directing a terrific strike into the top corner.

Kingshill dug in and responded with two well taken goals, the second an excellent volley from outside the box.

Sherston were quick to respond after the break when Bourne scored a fine goal to restore their lead.

To their credit, Kingshill stepped up a gear again and were rewarded by a four-goal burst that put them in a commanding position at 6-3.

Two substitutions helped turned the game in Sherston's favour.

Bradley Wickson, playing his second game for the home team, took control of the midfield, ably assisted by James Hutton.

Wickson reduced the deficit with his first goal for the club, a floated shot that left the Kingshill 'keeper stranded.

Sherston got another breakthrough when Salt knocked in his second of the match.

Soon after, the industrious Scott Hatton intercepted a Kingshill defender's pass before slotting the ball home to make it 6-6.

And then, incredibly, in a late foray, the ball fell to the ever-alert Salt who completed his hat-trick by knocking the decider in off the post.

Sherston remain top but given that main rivals Blunsdon, two points behind, have three games in hand, they may have to settle for a creditable second spot.
