Hugin Challenge Marathon – Pegwell Bay Country Park, near Ramsgate
STEVE EDWARDS recorded the 56th marathon win of his career and the first for his new club on the challenging eight-lap Hugin Marathon around Pegwell Bay Country Park in bitterly cold conditions.
Crossing the finish line in a time of 3:23.28 in his 763rd marathon, Steve admitted: "I started to struggle after halfway and thought my legs were going to seize up it was that cold.
"When we started it was -6° and it didn't warm up due to freezing fog which also made breathing very difficult.
"By the end I couldn't feel my hands or toes, even the water cups at the drinks station had ice in them!"
Sunday's win reinforces Steve's second placing in the men's British rankings for most career marathon wins, while he holds 31st position in the men's world rankings.
