Cirencester League Div One
Ashton Keynes 3
Lechlade FC 87 2
ASHTON KEYNES returned to winning ways against a Lechlade side who had improved markedly since the two teams last met.
Both sides created early chances but Ashton took the lead when Dean Wilson expertly volleyed into the corner from just inside the box.
Lechlade soon grabbed the equaliser after a quick breakaway and went ahead before half-time when Chris Robinson conceded a penalty as a result of a late challenge in the box. Although Ben Chadwick guessed the right way the Lechlade player found the bottom corner.
Ashton came out fighting after the interval but it took a while to find the equaliser.
Again it was Wilson who found the net after moving to centre forward.
Barnaby Chadwick broke down the right, pulled the ball back to Wilson, and after taking a touch he curled the ball into the top corner.
A couple of great saves by Chadwick in goal, and some resolute defending by Chris Robinson, Ben Mutlow, Stephen Pitt and Jordan Read ensured Lechlade's chances were kept to a minimum.
Also, Ashton were lucky when a couple of refereeing decisions went in their favour later in the second half.
Ashton found the winner with less than 10 minutes remaining and it was Wilson who completed his hat-trick.
After the ball pinged around the box Wilson controlled the ball at the back post before prodding it past the Lechlade keeper.
Midfielders Dan Dodson, Alex Evans, James Lally and Reece Bowler all worked tirelessly to break up play but the man-of-the-match award went to hat-trick man Wilson.
This weekend, Beeches are the visitors to the Bradstone for a cup game.
