GLOUCESTER, who thrashed Bayonne 64-19 in the final pool stages of the European Rugby Challenge Cup on Saturday night, have earned a home quarter final tie against Cardiff Blues.

First-half tries from Lewis Ludlow, Jonny May, Darren Dawidiuk and a double for captain Willi Heinz left the hosts with a bonus point.

Heinz completed his treble in the second half and further tries from Andy Symons, Henry Purdy, Josh Hohneck and Callum Braley ensured Gloucester topped the table.

Fly-half Billy Burns kicked six conversions and Billy Twelvetrees added another, with Bayonne's points coming courtesy of a hat-trick for wing Martin Laveau and two Lucas Meret conversions.

The Cherry and Whites, winners of the competition in 2015, suffered just one defeat from six group games, with their convincing victory over the French Top 14s bottom side their third successive win in all competitions.

Gloucester: Marshall; Sharples, Symons, Twelvetrees, May; Burns, Heinz (capt); Thomas, Dawidiuk, Afoa, Savage, Thrush, Ludlow, Rowan, Evans.

Replacements: Walker, Hohneck, Doran-Jones, Latta, Kvesic, Braley, Scott, Purdy.

Challenge Cup quarter-final draw: Bath v Brive, Gloucester v Cardiff, Edinburgh v La Rochelle, Ospreys v Stade Francais.

All ties will be played on March 30/31 and April 1/2.
