CIRENCESTER Hockey Club juniors Rachel Hatherell (14) and Megan Poole (13), have been named in the England Hockey Performance Centre (EHPC) squads and both have their eyes on securing an opportunity with the England U15s, writes Chris Pollard.
Both Rachel and Megan have been with the club for a number of years and were part of the U12 team that won through to the national finals after being crowned champions at the Gloucestershire county and West regional tournaments.
Megan, who has now won a place in the Cirencester 1st XI, will be attending the Reading Performance Centre, while Rachel will train at the Clifton Centre.
Success at the EHPC level would see them attend a four-day residential camp at Bisham Abbey where the final U15 squad is determined.
Ian Harvey, head of Cirencester junior training, said: “It is wonderful to see two of the club’s young protégés gaining recognition in the England Hockey player pathway.
"Both these young players have been a product of the Cirencester Hockey Club junior section and this achievement is a testament to their commitment and the support of their families.
"I played with both Megan’s grandfather Terry, who was a founder member of the men’s section, and her father Justin and the whole club wishes them every success.”
