Cirencester League Div Two

Ashtion Keynes Reserves 1

Sherston 7

SHERSTON kept their title push on track with a 7-1 victory at Ashton Keynes Reserves – although they were perhaps flattered by the final scoreline.

After a disappointing display against Minety the previous week, Sherston were keen to get back to winning ways against the bottom team in the division.

However, the home side proved to be no pushovers and looked a much better team than their lowly position would suggest.

Indeed, for a 20-minute period in the first half, Ashton Keynes had Sherston on the back foot and were a little unlucky to concede the first goal, which was tucked away neatly by Will Barrass.

Sherston's second goal, added by Tommy Bourne following a determined chase against a defender and the keeper, was again not indicative of any superior play from the visitors but of their ability to finish well on the day.

A fine goal scored by Chris Salt put Sherston 3-0 up at the break.

Ashton Keynes continued to press Sherston in the second half and they did manage to score one goal, following some confusion between a Sherston defender and the goalkeeper, but it made little difference to the result as Sherston cruised to a 7-1 victory.

Sherston's second-half goals came from Will Eaton, Barrass and a fit again and lively-looking Scott Hatton, who came off the bench to knock in two.

Ex-Oaksey player, Brad Wickson made his debut for Sherston, coming on for the last half-hour to give an impressive cameo performance.
