Warminster Town 5

Malmesbury Vics 1

MALMESBURY VICS could never overcome being without six regular first team starters through suspension on their visit to Warminster Town.

However, manager Kev Bridgeman didn’t foresee a shambolic first 45 minutes from his players which left them 5-0 down at the interval.

Bridgeman said: "We lacked any passion or desire in the tackle, our shape was all over the place, and we were cut open at will by an average Warminster side."

The first goal came after just two minutes when a long ball from the left was lofted over the Vics back four and was pounced upon by the home side's number 10 to fire home.

The next goal saw Mark Robinson picking up a pass and waltzing through four or five players unchallenged which put the hosts firmly in the driving seat.

The Vics struggled to create anything in the final third, and were under constant pressure.

Further goals from Francois Allen, Josh Ferguson and Jack Miluk saw Warminster head to the break with a 5-0 lead.

The Vics changed their formation to 3-5-2 and replaced Lee Fernandez with Jack Duckers and he went up top to partner Shane Bumphrey.

The visitors gave a more typical performance in the second 45 and created chance after chance.

Andy Baker somehow missed the target from three yards out, and the home keeper made a trio of great saves to deny Jamie Packer, Bumphrey and Duckers.

The Vics' solitary consolation goal came on 75 minutes when good work from Ryan Collins and then a Bumphrey backheel resulted in Packer firing home his eighth goal of the season.

The Vics travel to Cirencester Town on Tuesday night to play a friendly at the Corinium Stadium with a 7.30pm kick-off, before returning to Western League action on Saturday at home to Ashton & Backwell United.
