St. Neots Town 1
Cirencester Town 1

CIRENCESTER TOWN were happy to settle for a point at St. Neots Town after a four-and-a-half hour coach journey (delayed three times due to traffic incidents and a road closure) caused the kick-off to be put back for 15 minutes.

Despite the lack of a pre-match warm-up, they made the perfect start with captain Mat Liddiard opening the scoring within two minutes.

Liddiard received the ball in the left channel of the home penalty area and clipped it towards the far post. The 'keeper got his hand to it but couldn't prevent it dropping over his head and inside the far right post.

The home side responded and pressed Cirencester with Declan Rogers bringing a superb save from Raajan Gill who pushed his effort round the post.

Just after a period of Ciren pressure the home side equalised in the 18th minute when a cross from the left was headed inside the left post by James Hall.

Three minutes later Gill produced a terrific reflex save to push a deflected drive from Rogers over his crossbar.

At the mid-point of the half Ciren debutant Dan Demkiv burst into the area to collect a Liddiard pass but his shot was blocked by the feet of Alex Archer.

The game continued at a frantic pace as the teams sought to get on top.

St. Neots' left flank was prominent during the second half but Cirencester were in a determined mood and produced many blocks to keep them out while countering quickly down both flanks.

In added time Cirencester nearly took the three points as Sindri Scheving crossed from the left to the penalty spot where Henry Spalding darted forward to produce a firm volley that flew over the bar – a lesser connection may have had the desired result.
