Purton 2

Tytherington Rocks 0

PURTON'S victory over Tytherington Rocks at the Red House on Saturday saw manager Justin Miller's side move into third place in the table and extend their recent unbeaten league run to eight games including six wins, writes Alan Eastwood.

Once again, however, Purton were not at their best – but it's points that count.

On an uneven playing surface the hosts restricted Rocks to just a couple of chances and could have had more than two goals themselves.

Leading scorer Matt Bennett missed an early chance before Nathan Gambling headed home a Joe Dorey cross after just 10 minutes.

On 18 minutes Bennett was fouled in the box after bursting through but Ed Herbert saw his spot-kick saved by the Rocks 'keeper.

Just before half-time Bennett laid on what looked like a goal for Gambling only for the effort to be disallowed for offside.

The second half saw Purton adding just one more goal after Bennett (twice), Dorey and Herbert all had opportunities, while the Purton 'keeper also had to tip over a fine Rocks effort.

Then Marcus Hall produced a great defence-splitting pass in the 65th minute which sent Bennett clear and the striker did the rest to make the three points secure.
