North Wilts League Div Two
Ashton Keynes U17s 3
Royal Wootton Bassett Town U18s 0
ASHTON KEYNES' high pressure game proved too much for a Wootton Bassett side who were forced into sloppy errors.
Ashton started brightly and with persistent and accurate deliveries from right winger David Arnett the pressure slowly grew.
Bassett cracked when Ashton's Ewan Palmer charged down a clearance from the Bassett keeper and the ball dropped to Dean Wainwright who finished from the edge of the box.
A few minutes later Ashton struck again; this time Lee Plaistow found himself in space on the edge of the Bassett penalty area and finished into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 to the hosts.
After an unconvincing first half, Bassett came out fighting in the second period.
Their most clear-cut opportunity came from a free kick 20 yards out which was comfortably saved by Ashton keeper Greg Griffin.
The third Ashton goal arrived when Arnett cut through the Bassett back line and drove his shot against the sprawling keeper, with Wainwright finishing off the rebound.
Ashton are now joint-top with Croft Junior U18s though they have played two games more.
MoM: Charlie Cook for a professional defensive display in the centre of midfield.
