SWINDON ROBINS have added two youngsters to their team for 2017.

Dane Emil Grondal, 21, and Zach Wajtknecht, 18, join Frenchman David Bellego, world number five Jason Doyle, Nick Morris and Adam Ellis.

The seventh and final place has yet to be filled.

Grondal debuted in British racing in 2015 with Peterborough and has made steady progress since his arrival but his signing does not seem to have excited the fans.

However, Wajtknecht, from Bristol, has genuine talent, albeit that he is probably one for the future.

He is also heading into his third season on the shale after picking up invaluable experience with Somerset last year and is a back-to-back National League champion with Birmingham.

He is already a double World Champion, twice triumphing in the FIM 125cc Grasstrack Youth Gold Trophy. He followed up these successes by being crowned British 250cc Youth Champion in 2013 and winner of the FIM 250cc Longtrack Youth World Cup in 2014.

Unfortunately he spent much of last season on the injury list but manager Alun Rossiter is to be congratulated on this arrival.

Rossiter said: "Both of these signings really excite me and they're two riders who are only going to get better week by week.

"They're both young but they're both very keen and eager to learn and progress and they have both got some real good potential.

"They present themselves very professionally and after speaking to them about the equipment they'll be running I was even more encouraged and impressed.

"They both come on high recommendations; Bjarne Pedersen speaks very highly of Emil and Adam Ellis, who rode with Zach at Birmingham, has only got good words to say about him.

"Zach is a rider we'd looked at previously and with a lot of like-for-like riders at reserve in other teams, he's got a chance to show everyone what he can do this year.

"With the right people around them, this pair could be two real trump cards for us on relatively low averages and we feel that they are good additions to our line-up.

"The jigsaw is almost complete now and we're just waiting on a few things before we finalise our last rider."

Rossiter has 5.13 points to play with to build the team up to the 50-point limit and many would hope that Somerset’s Kiwi Bradley Wilson-Dean, who has a number of connections with Swindon and an average of 5.02, would be the final signing.

Whoever joins, some of the signings will be looking over their shoulders once Doyle drops to proper average of around 11 after starting the season on the falsely-high mark of 13.41.

By May the points saved will surely open the way to strengthen the side.
