GFA Minor Cup (N) 3rd Round
Charlton Rovers Reserves 2
The Beeches 2
THE BEECHES came out on top in a thrilling game against Charlton Rovers Reserves to progress to the quarter finals of the county cup after winning on penalties.
The Beeches got off to a flying start with Matthew Walters snatching an early goal – a simple half volley from around four yards out.
Charlton grabbed an equaliser after the break with a headed goal from a corner and then grabbed a second which put pressure on the home side who were struggling to find a way through the Charlton defence.
Late in the game new signing Ian McSherry managed to get the equaliser with a well-struck shot from just outside the box.
The game ended 2-2 and it was straight to penalties.
Adam Leighfield stepped up to take the first penalty but the keeper saved it. Adam Mansell, Walters, McSherry, Scott Smith and James Moorcroft all converted their spot kicks to win the shootout 5-4.
MoM: James Moorcroft.
