Lechlade FC 87 3

Ashton Keynes 4

ASHTON KEYNES followed their cup success last weekend with a solid 4-3 league victory in an end-to-end match at Lechlade.

With a couple of games in hand they are now hoping to climb the table.

Ashton had several good chances in the first 10 minutes. The deadlock was broken shortly after when Mike Blackwell hit a powerful deflected shot from outside the area which flew into the roof of the net.

Barnaby Chadwick made it 2-0 with a tap-in from close range after a good run and pull back by Dean Wilson.

There were many chances for both sides in the second half with Brad James in commanding form on his return to the goalkeeping duties for Ashton The visitors went 3-0 up when George Tasker opened his account for the club. Shrugging off two defenders he used his power and pace to race into the box, rounded the keeper and drove the ball into the empty net.

Lechlade did reply after some poor defending by Ashton let the opposing striker skip through and place the ball past James.

Ashton failed to convert a number of other chances before Blackwell was brought down in the box and Reece Bowler fired in the resulting penalty.

Lechlade then found another gear and scored two late goals via a free kick and a goal line scramble but Ashton held on to take all three points.

Both full backs were outstanding with Steve Pitt playing extremely well, however, the man of the match was Mike Blackwell.
