Tetbury 62

Wotton 22

TETBURY ran out convincing winners over Wotton at The Rec in an eagerly-anticipated clash on Saturday.

The first half produced the best of the action for Tetbury with Harri Sayers and Matt Niblett each scoring a hat-trick of tries along with eight points from the boot of Scott Seal.

The pack soon gained the upper hand at the set piece to allow the free running backs their try-scoring opportunities.

Wotton replied with two first-half tries of their own, much to the frustration of Tetbury coach Stephen Knight.

Wotton scored soon after the restart too forcing Tetbury to sharpen their focus and play in the right areas.

Resolute defending halted the Wotton runners and gave Tetbury more territory, enabling them to score further tries through veteran Tom Seal, Ryan Hoare and another for Niblett. Scott Seal added a try to his 12 points with the boot for a personal tally of 17.

Captain Billy Udall, number eight Ant Jaep and player of the match Ben Curtis had strong games in the forwards, working tirelessly at the set piece and breakdowns which allowed the backs space and attacking opportunities.

Coach Knight was pleased with the 62-22 result, particularly the contribution from the younger members of the team as they continue to gain experience at senior level.

Club chairman Buster Udall noted the hard work the players were putting into training was starting to show in games and there is a steadily growing core of players to push the club forward.
