Avonvale Utd U13s 5

South Cerney U13s 3

THE Avonvale U13s moved within two points of the top of the table with a game in hand when beating South Cerney 5-3.

Cerney definitely started the better of the two sides and Avonvale were lucky not to go 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes.

Avonvale eventually found their rhythm and settled into the game, breaking the deadlock after some good build-up play and an equally good finish by Luca Pollitt.

With their heads up, Vale quickly scored another two goals.

Cerney started brightly again after the break and got back into the game by finding the back of Vale's net twice.

Vale dug deep and with good passing in midfield they scored a further two goals before Cerney added a third.

But Vale managed to see the match out with a 5-3 scoreline which moved them to second in the table.

Marlborough U18s 3

VERY few Avonvale players had even touched the ball before they were a goal down – Marlborough scoring from a very early corner.

The away team continued to press and twice hit the bar.

Avonvale were limited to a snap shot from Adam Gale early on, but gradually pulled themselves into the game.

Lawrence Cooper equalised off a cross from Owen Johnson and Theo Martin – increasingly influential during the game – had a good run and shot.

Both sides created chances during the half but Marlborough retook the lead with a finish from a tight angle.

Avonvale had the slope and wind behind them in the second half and dominated territory. However, two enforced changes saw them lacking options and pressure on the defence on a break saw the visitors grab a third.

Avonvale continued to press forward but were unable to break down a solid visiting team.
