European Rugby Challenge Cup

Gloucester 37

Benetton Treviso 8

JONNY MAY made it two tries in as many comeback games as he helped Gloucester to maintain their perfect record in the European Challenge Cup with a comfortable bonus-point win over Benetton Treviso.

New signing Salesi Ma'afu was named among the replacements and made his Gloucester debut for the last 16 minutes and there was a first appearance in a matchday squad for the Academy's Freddie Clarke.

Greig Laidlaw kicked two penalties before Lewis Ludlow went over as Gloucester led 13-0 after 25 minutes.

Ian McKinley's penalty was the Italian side's first points before May went over at the end of the first half with an understandably exuberant dive. Laidlaw's conversion made it 20-3 at the interval.

England wing May, who made a try-scoring comeback against Bayonne the previous week, has been sidelined with a knee injury since last December.

Michael Tagicakibau got a try for Treviso soon after the break, but Matt Scott got a third soon after before Callum Braley nabbed the bonus point with the last play of the game.

The afternoon got off to an understandably sad note as the Kingsholm crowd acknowledged the sad passings of Munster head coach Anthony Foley and also the former Gloucester RFC doctor Rob MacKay.

After a minute's applause for both men, the game got underway in near perfect conditions.
