Purton 3
A GOAL in the first 60 seconds paved the way for Purton’s 3-0 local derby victory over Shrivenham on Saturday.
Manager Justin Miller brought Callum and Marcus Hall, Craig Kent, Josh Kirby and Jerome Dodson into the squad as a number of first team regulars were absent through holidays, work and injury.
The back five were solid throughout while the midfield worked hard and the front two of Matt Bennett and Shannon Pocock gave the Shrivenham defence a nightmare afternoon.
Purton scored three goals but it could have been many more as Matt Bennett (once) and Shannon Pocock (three times) hit the home side’s woodwork.
Joe Herbert scored the important first goal, converting a penalty after Bennett had been upended in the box.
The other two goals came late on, after 83 and 85 minutes with Bennett setting up his strike partner Pocock on both occasions.
On Saturday, sixth-placed Purton are away at Letcombe in the league (3pm).

Shrivenham Reserves 0
RYAN WELLAND, with a four-goal salvo which included a penalty, gave Purton Reserves their second league win on the bounce.
Brad Stanners chipped in with the other goal.
Once again, however, the Reserves were forced to play assistant manager Daniel Allen in goal with manager Pete Temple having to name himself as a substitute. This was a good all-round display by the ‘Reds’.
On Saturday they are home again to Oxford City ‘Development’ (3pm).
