WILTSHIRE Wooden Spoon's floodlit rugby tournament for disadvantaged youngsters across the county got off to a great start at Swindon Supermarine.

A crowd of more than 200 saw games involving 65 players and Wiltshire´s Wooden Spoon chairman, Gareth John said:" It was a truly great night, with lots of excitement and we can´t wait for the next round".

The next event will take place at Royal Wootton Bassett on October 21, Chippenham on November 4, Devizes on November 11 and Melksham November 18. All begin at 7pm.

Youngsters from the following clubs are taking part: Supermarine, Chippenham Trowbridge, Devizes, Melksham, Minety, Marlborough, Corsham, Bradford upon Avon, Warminister, Salisbury and Westbury.

Well over 400 young players are involved in the fund raising matches. The venue for the finals are due to be announced.
