Club Championship

DAVE BELL looks set to win the Cirencester AC Road Runner's Championship despite Adrian Williams sitting in pole position with just one race to go – the Stroud Half Marathon (October 23).

Dave is in excellent current form and will gain the necessary points if taking one of the top three places for the club at the race.

Meanwhile, Adrian continues to struggle with injury.

Barbara Thomas, bidding to complete 100 races in 2016, is in an unassailable position for the Women’s Road Championship.

Gordon Jones (MV60) has given it his all and will be rewarded for his efforts by winning the Club Runner's Championship; he is in an unassailable position.

This second men's accolade recognises participation and improvement (over the last two years) as well as finishing positions.

Barbara Thomas also leads the women's competition but as the rules prevent her from winning both the Road and Club Championship, the latter looks likely to be won by Ruth Fulford (FV65).

Oxford Half Marathon, 13.1 miles road

SARAH HANCOCK (2:03.14), in her first race wearing the club colours, completed the Oxford Half Marathon with a chip time of well under two hours (1:52.32) but with more than 7,500 finishers it took her nearly 10 minutes to cross the start line.

RESULTS: 1, Paul Whittaker (Southend AC) 1:07.18; 3,137, Sarah Hancock 2:03.14 (chip time 1:52.32). 7,517 finished.

RICHARD HURDLE (39.13) returned to the world of “normal” running by competing in a mere 10k road race and surprised himself by finishing a creditable 14th less than three weeks after completing his 185-mile epic along the length of Offa’s Dyke.

RESULTS: 1, Joseph McLeod (Coventry Godiva) 35.49; 14, Richard Hurdle 39.13. 465 finished.
