Cirencester II 0

Fairford 47

A YOUTHFUL and powerful Fairford team tore through Cirencester's 2nd XV to win 47-0 in an impressive start to the season, writes Miles Harrison.

The tone was set from the first scrum as Fairford swiftly sent Cirencester retreating in the set piece.

The opening score came from a stunning try by Charlie Bailey whose dazzling feet were too hard for Ciren to contain.

Debutant and MoM Olly Hart powered over before the Fairford scrum then earned the Badgers a penalty try.

Half-time couldn't come soon enough for the outclassed opposition as Fairford never took a step back.

Green Army stalwart Chris Tanner led from the front to thunder over the line with fellow forwards Ben Goodey and Marc Thomas rampaging in the loose.

Despite losing a man to the bin, Fairford stiffened the sinews, and poured forward for another score, this time by Sam Johnson.

The visitors’ defence weathered Cirencester's phase play and the one-sided scoreboard kept ticking over.

Johnson's notable turnover impressed the crowd, turning defence into attack to produce a stunning link-up move with Jamal Alborough, which was only stopped short of the line.

Fairford continued to attack until the final play, earning two late tries for Olly Holland and Tom Cohoon.

A fine afternoon was capped by the display of young fly-half Ben Cohoon who slotted six of his seven kicks. A convincing start to their campaign indeed.
