SEVEN members of the WMSki cable wakeboarding crew earned four podium spots at the latest round of events of the Grass Roots Tour (South Region).

The fifth leg of the tour was held at the South Coast Wake Park in Portsmouth with the judging done by professional wakeboarder Scotty Broome.

Conditions were perfect, sunny with little wind, leaving the water flat which makes wakeboarding much more fun.

Barnes Yorke-Davies, of South Cerney, earned a magnificent first place in the Men's Open.

Also on the podium were Cirencester's Kay Ransom, who finished second in the Ladies Rookies, along with John Anderson and Izzy Anderson, both from South Cerney, who were third respectively in the Men’s Rookies and Junior Rookies.

These were great results from the WMSki team as they had only ten laps to quickly familiarise themselves with the various rails and jumps, whereas the local riders train all year at this particular site.

Even the youngest member of the team – at just seven years old – put on a confident run in the competition.

All three WMSki rookies had used home advantage to win their classes when the tour came to the Somerford Keynes lake at the start of this month.

The Grass Roots Tour (South) is a cable wakeboarding competition that includes six different wakeboard sites from Cirencester to North Devon.

The sixth and final leg takes place at Lagoon Watersports in Hove on October 1 when the local riders will find out the overall standings.

WMSki is a cable wakeboarding facility in Somerford Keynes at Cotswold Country Park and Beach.

It is a popular facility – people drive from Bristol, Cardiff, Bath and Oxford to ride and train there – because it has a beautiful setting and a very high level of coaching from pro wakeboarder Charlie Marshall.

The nearest other wakeboard parks are either in London or on the South Coast.
