Buildbase FA Vase
Fleet Spurs 1
Fairford Town 3
FAIRFORD Town secured a place in the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase thanks to a 3-1 win at Fleet Spurs on Saturday.
After a dramatic, last-gasp comeback in the first qualifying round stage, the visitors were out to make life a little easier this time around.
Gareth Davies brought Chris Jackson and Sam Ockwell into the line-up and his side had to wait until just before the interval for the deadlock to be broken when Lee Smith converted a cross from Josh Morse for a 1-0 lead.
It was a tense second half until Jack Ellis made it 2-0, putting Fairford in sight of Monday’s Wembley draw.
But a penalty saw the home side reduce the arrears through Knowles, before Morse made the game safe, beating the offside trap to finish in style and round off a good afternoon’s work for a 3-1 away win.
Fairford Town: Mitchell; Chilcott, Dainton, Ockwell, Jackson; Morse, Boucher, Cordery, Drewett; Ellis, Smith. Subs: Alexander (GK), Blackford, Hale, Saunders.
